FACTORY is a concept for a heavy metal group whose inspiration initially came from the noises the large machines and vehicles would make at the local lumber mill the band works at. The love for growling bass, fast paced drumming and intense breakdowns heavily inspires the aspects of their brand.
Their main logo, originally designed to be more legible so new listeners could easily identify the band, was reworked for the second album, so it associated more with the genre's of music they want to be associated with - Deathcore/Thrash. Another reasoning for the new logo is because they felt it was more aligned to the title of their new album: impalement.
Both album covers are done with collages, and surround a specific theme. Their second album ‘ IMPALEMENT ‘ has a skull with nails through it that was hand drawn and digitally touched up.
FIRST ALBUM & TOUR DATES
The first album from factory, Buzzsaw, was created using images of the interior and exterior of different factories and mechanical-related imagery. Along with this album, I created a tour poster for this released - thematically named 'the incident tour'.
SECOND ALBUM & ALTERNATE LOGO
FACTORY's second album, IMPALEMENT, followed a similar style to the first album in the sense that a collage was used for the album cover, however I decided to draw a skull with nails coming out to make this the focal point of this design. The nails coming out of the skull also relates to the album name. My logic to this was that I wanted the artwork to be the focal point more than the name of the album, so consumers would be able to recognise the album without necessarily having to see the album title first.
IMPALEMENT
This was the final design I landed on. I have included a couple of iterations at the bottom of this page, howeverI felt this one has a good flow and layout to it. The alternate logo ties in great to the design as a whole, as I feel the original logo would stand out more, but not in a way that would benefit the design as a whole.
FINAL COLLAGE
ITERATIONS
below are a few iterations of the Impalement album cover, which I felt wasn't what I was looking for until I landed on the final design above.
